Street Coordinator Program
Neighbours Helping Neighbours in Times of Disaster
When floods, storms or other emergencies hit, it’s locals who show up first. Emergency services do their best, but in those first critical hours, it’s neighbours helping neighbours that makes the biggest difference.
That’s why Murwillumbah CORE is launching the Street Coordinator Program — a way to make sure every area of town has someone who can step up, connect, and help when disaster strikes.
🏡 What is a Street Coordinator?
A Street Coordinator is a trusted local who becomes the link between their neighbours and support during times of disaster. You don’t need special skills — just community spirit and the willingness to be there when your street needs you most.
Murwillumbah CORE provides the training, tools, and equipment you need to feel confident in the role.
💪 What Street Coordinators Do
During disasters and recovery, Street Coordinators help their neighbourhoods by:
Acting as a point of contact for neighbours
Sharing important updates and resources
Checking in on vulnerable residents such as the elderly, isolated, or those with special needs
Helping neighbours connect with each other in times of need
Setting up a pop-up help, recharge & connect station with the kit and training we provide
🌟 Why It Matters
We know from the 2017 and 2022 floods that when disaster strikes, the first people to respond are other locals. By having a network of trained Street Coordinators across Murwillumbah, we can:
Build stronger, safer, and more connected streets
Ensure no one is left behind during crisis
Support emergency services with local knowledge and coordination
🙌 Get Involved
We’re looking for locals who are ready to step up for their street.
If you think that you would make a great team leader and wish to be registered as a part of this program, please contact us at hub@mcore2484.org
ALREADY A STREET COORDINATOR and want to borrow the BBQ or luggage trailer?
MCORE’s trailers are available for our Street Coordinators to host local street BBQs — a simple, friendly way to connect with your neighbours and build a stronger, more prepared community.
These gatherings are about more than just a sausage on bread. They’re an opportunity to:
Meet and get to know the people on your street
Share what MCORE is all about
Start conversations about preparedness and local support
Identify who might need extra help in an emergency
Build trust and connection before a disaster happens
The BBQ trailer is easy to use and comes equipped with what you need to get started. All you need to do is pick a date, invite your street, and create a welcoming space for connection.
